I love the wholesome, natural image of burt’s bees. I love the packaging of burt’s bees. I am a forever loyal consumer of burt’s bees Beeswax Lip Balm. But I am continually disappointed by the make up line.

In another attempt to give the make up line one more try, I picked up the tinted facial moisturizer in medium. Most summer days I use Clinique’s Almost Makeup, a very sheer, tinted sunscreen. So I am used to little coverage, which means I don’t think it was false expectation that led to my disappointment with burt’s bees tinted moisturizer.

The smell of the product is wonderful. That’s about all I can say in its favor. Its consistency is closer to an oily sunscreen, yet there is no spf in the product. Its coverage is nada . . . zilch . . . none. After trying it off and on for a few weeks, and being unhappy with the results, I decided to put it to the test this morning by covering half of my face in the product. Liberally. With a sponge applicator. I went all out, smoothed it from hairline to neck. When I look in the mirror, I see . . . nothing. Aside from some added shine and oiliness, I see the exact same dark circles under both eyes, the same redness, the same pale spots. There is nothing separating the side of my face with burt’s tinted facial moisturizer from my natural skin. Now, before that is read as a positive, and the response is, “Oh, but that is because burt’s bees is so wonderfully natural,” let me clarify that I do not mean this in any sort of positive way. Why would I bother to put on a product when it offers absolutely no coverage or improvement to my skin, has a super oily texture, making my skin oily to the touch, and only adds an unforgiving shine about my face, as though I am in a permanent sweat? I am all about radiant make up. This is in no way a product that adds glow or luminescence. It adds an oily t-zone. And I have dry skin.

Before I concluded this post, I went back to the mirror to reevaluate my brutal review, but my findings were conclusive. This product is a no-go for me. I can only have the mercy to say it might possibly be useful as solely a moisturizer, but even for that purpose there are many better alternatives on the market.

I use Burt Bees tinted moisturizer every morning. I use the light shade which is really too light for me but since there is only a small amount of covering up flaws, what it really does for me is brighten my skin. I apply it by putting a pea size amount in my hands rubbing them together and spreading it all over my face. After I apply it, I then VERY lightly dust my skin with Bare Minerals powder. I use the Bare minerals on the areas that need a little more coverup and then quickly and lightly blend it over my whole face. When I am finished I have a bright flawless moist looking complextion without looking greasy, or matted and the Burts Bees helps protect it all day.
I do not have clogged pores from this and I love this product.
